“Between Reflections and Recollections’’ is a joint exhibition by Kaisu Koivisto (Helsinki) and Vineta Kaulača (Riga) and developed from the collaborative project Double Vision, presented in the autumn of 2025 at Galeriaia in Helsinki. The exhibition explores how human perception is shaped and transformed through the interplay of personal memory, collective experience, and cultural context. It investigates the ways in which visual reality may be altered – transformed, refined, or reinterpreted – when filtered through layers of individual experience and memory. Within this framework, distortion is not regarded as an error but rather as a creative instrument, one capable of revealing otherwise unseen or concealed dimensions of reality. Bringing together painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed-media works, the exhibition establishes a visual dialogue between two distinct yet mutually complementary artistic practices. Colours, materials, forms, and spatial relationships interact to create a multilayered visual structure that underscores the complexity and ambiguity inherent in the act of seeing.  “Between Reflections and Recollection’’ invites viewers to reflect on the subjectivity of perception and on the ways in which images, space, and experience shape our understanding of reality. The exhibition encourages consideration of how what is seen can simultaneously function as both reflection and interpretation – layered, fluid, and continually shifting. The exhibition underscores the idea that perception is never neutral – it is shaped by context, associations, and the interplay between internal and external worlds.
