The exhibition “All The Doors Were Swinging Softly” brings together three series of works by Ekaterina Costa: “Souvenirs de Poche” (2024–2026), “The Gambler: Reasonable Doubt” (2025), and “Zodiac” (2025–2026), in which the artist examines the mechanisms of personal and collective memory through the family archive and found objects. Turning to fragments of her own history, Costa gathers photographs, recordings, inherited and obtained materials, transforming them into an artistic observation. Her interest lies in liminal states in which experience becomes detached from its original meaning, continuing to exist within a kaleidoscopic shift of contexts. The image of the swinging door, borrowed from Henry Miller, sets the optics of the artist’s gaze: the door becomes a portal into memory and a metaphor for the continuous slippage between the living of a moment and its trace.
