Beyond the Bent Twig opens on the 29th of May at the Museum of Pacific and Oceanic Arts and runs until the 4th of July.
Bringing together a new generation of Latvian contemporary artists, the exhibition explores what it means to be part of Latvian society today. Drawing on the metaphor of the “bent twig” by Riga-born thinker Isaiah Berlin, the show invites reflection on identity, resilience, and the possibility of a more open, inclusive future.
Set in a space dedicated to Pacific and Oceanic cultures, the exhibition creates space to look outward, learn from others, and imagine society as a diverse, living ecosystem - rooted, expansive, and shared.

About the gallery
Founded by Fijian curator Suluo Daunivalu, the Museum of Pacific and Oceanic Arts in Riga celebrates the rich artistic traditions of the Pacific and Oceania. Bridging cultures, the museum showcases traditional works like tapa cloth and painting alongside contemporary art from the region. It also collaborates with Latvian artists and curators on joint exhibitions and offers workshops and masterclasses, fostering dialogue and shared creativity. Through exhibitions and partnerships, the museum brings the spirit of the Pacific to Northern Europe.
