PERFORMANCE/LECTURE:

“Confession Prototype 1” is a lecture-performance originally commissioned for 99 Canal (New York) in 2025, in which the artist considers confession vs. theory, marketplace nihilism, violence and humiliation, the open or closed space of erotic obsession, and her life. It requires the signing of a non-disclosure agreement by every audience member.

BIO:

Sophia Giovannitti (b. 1992) is an artist and author who lives in New York. She is interested in creating scenarios that antagonize and disturb rote modes of value extraction from artists and workers, privileging states of confusion, manipulation, and potential. She has exhibited and performed widely, most recently at MIT List (Cambridge), 99 Canal (New York), Amant (Brooklyn), and Blade Study (New York). Her first book, Working Girl, was published by Verso in May 2023. She is presently at work on her second book, Terms of Service, forthcoming from Astra House in 2027.
